Welcome to
Portland’s Queer Parenting Village
Nobody needs community more than parents of young kids, but most families don’t have the village they need. Family Friend is here to change that. We’re building third spaces that queer parents and caregivers deserve.
Here, likeminded families and caregivers can find each other, share resources, and grow together.
Our events, playdates, and workshops create a warm and affirming space where families and people who care for kids feel fully seen, respected, and understood.
Family Friend is also a place to nest resources. Looking for a sitter, hand-me-downs, or a recommendation for a new pediatrician? You’ll find that (and more) here.
What We Do + Why it Matters
Many of the families and individuals who come to Portland are in search of an accepting, welcoming community. All too often they struggle to find places to create community, and find themselves even more isolated. Family Friend is making space for real connection for Portland’s queer parents and caregivers.
Events: Our events, playdates, and workshops create a warm and affirming space for queer families to find each other.
Newsletter: Stay connected with our monthly newsletter! We’ll share the latest member hand me down offerings and requests, engaging family activity ideas, local caregiver and small business highlights, seasonal and local happenings, and more.
Family Care Practitioner Network: We’re connected to family care practitioners throughout Portland. Need a queer-affirming nanny, screentime coach, or doula? We’re building a strong network of great recommendations.
We’re here to be your family friend; a trusted hub for connection, creativity, and care in Portland’s queer parenting community.
Coming Soon:
A Home For Family Friend
We’re set to find a place to nest Family Friend’s programming and grow our community in early 2027. We envision a space that is part cozy parent lounge, part imaginative play area for little ones.
Once we’re settled in we’ll have even more robust weekly programming and offerings for members.
It will be a place to:
⊛ Relax and connect with friends while the kids play nearby
⊛ Attend parent and caregiver workshops, playgroups, music circles, and classes
⊛ Join coworking style “quiet hours” designed for grown ups
⊛ Create and host your own events in a safe and affirming space
This will be the next chapter in building something needed: a real world village for Portland’s queer parents and allies, rooted in care, joy, and belonging.
